As a lot of you on this forum know i am planning a move to the Ft Lauderdale area very soon - I welcome all responses, however, i'm looking for people who just recently moved to Florida. I have several questions...

1. Did you have a job before you moved?

2. Where did you move?

3. If you didn't have a job, have you found one!

4. What kind of job/career - do you have?

5. Do you thoroughly enjoy Florida?

6. Please tell me what ever else you think I may need to consider.

Thank you.

Maybe you should post this in the Ft. Lauderdale section since each local area would be better able to tell you about local jobs, housing, schools, etc.

1. No but unless youre retiring, it is smart to have beforehand.
2. Florida Panhandle
3. Yes. Self employed.
4. HVAC owner
5. Totally
6. Are you alright living in a very hot and humid climate ? Threat of damaging hurricanes...sometimes regularly ? Living happily amongst many ethnic people as found in South Florida ? Big Bugs, snakes, Alligators, Black Widow Spiders, etc ???? Id strongly suggest you come down a couple times before you uproot and move. You may really like it or you may have reservations depending on the type of person you are.

007 - I live in NYC right now so the different people thing is not an issue at all - now I think it is an omen that you responded - my husband is a steamfitter - ie hvac - can you tell me being an owner what you pay (ball park) a very experienced tech? He has been doing this for 13 years - he is in the union here - i realize that is probably not going to be the case there - he makes what is considered a good living here - I just wonder what we could expect there - we will be moving to the ft lauderdale area - any help you can give me is appreciated!!

less than a month?? That isn't very long at all - what did you dislike so much that you left in such a hurry?

I would say the average HVAC tech makes about 18-20 bucks an hour here in north florida, not so sure about south florida and there are not many unions.

thanks parks - I think that is about average - I'm hoping a foreman position would warant more money - 13 years in the union and lead mechanic - I'm hoping he can find a little more.
