Best - Key West, by far

If you had asked even 2 years ago, I would have put Melbourne into the boring category. It was mostly antique stores. We're up to 25 restaurants and bars in the downtown area now though, and a bunch of art gallery type stores are opening up. For a small city, it's actually becoming a happening place.

Downtown Orlando is pretty cool also. They have surprisingly few restaurants, but they have a huge bar district if you're into night life.

Miami's downtown/Brickell area is nice to look at, but there's nothing to do when you're there. The same goes for Tampa.

As for worst, I can't think of any one that sticks out more than others.

Tallahassee has a great downtown for its size.

As far as "bad" downtowns, I don't know if any of the midsize to big cities in Florida have "bad" downtowns. The only bad ones would be the towns where the downtown area has been dilapidated and abandoned.

Jacksonville's does seem kinda dead considering how big the city is.

St. Petersburg has the best downtown! Lots of bars, lounges, clubs, museums, parks, shopping and restaurants. Very charming area. Small town charm with big city night life. downtownstpete.com downtownstpete.ilovetheburg.com

Miami has the best downtown area. Its densely populated with transit and has high retail shoping, bars, clubs, parks and historic landmarks.
