The Food and Drug Administration is seriously considering whether to approve the first genetically engineered animal that people would eat — salmon that can grow at twice the normal rate.

There is nothing like real salmon, I never used to like it before living in Alaska, but this crap is what gives salmon a bad name....

I heard on a science radio program yesterday that the genetically modified fish are designed to reach "market" i.e. full size in half the time that a natural fish requires. It is very disturbing when living beings are manipulated and made to spend their short lives in hellish conditions in order to maximize profit for a corporation's stock holders. Some day this is going to come back and bite us in the butt in a very serious way.

I note the 400 million and growing number of chicken eggs that are being recalled now. They come from companies called "farms" however, they are massive factories where millions of hens are captive in tiny battery cages, hardly what one thinks of as a farm.
