Hell, yes, she could cook very well. She learned from her mom, who was a wonderful cook.

I hope one day I will get anywhere close to her regarding cooking skills; her cooking was very simple, but very tasty.

I said no.. But of course she could cook but nothing fancy. Usually meat, potatoes and a veggie! Not a lot of variety. But, my Grandmother was a great cook. My mother in law was a fabulous cook..fattened me up. My wife is a super cook. I like to cook and not to bad myself.

But when they can stand in for hockey pucks.... my mom's meat cooking (other than her fried chicken- which was good- she hasn't made it in years though) method consisted of 'fry/bake (yeah, she baked steaks dry in the pan) until rock hard, then serve'.

I'm guessin' I inherited my cooking abilities from my Mamaw.. I set a big cooker of pinto beans and a cake of cornbread in front of my husband today and he said something about calling my mamaw to tell her thank you.... lol

I have great family dinner memories, but the cooking was dreadful:

Monday - spaghetti
Tuesday - Baked chicken
Wednesday - Pepper steak
Thursday - Pork chops
Friday - Meatloaf
Saturday - Steak
Sunday - Roast in the middle of the day, Popcorn for dinner

Multiply this times 18 years.......................

I can't imagine having a mom who can't cook! What do the kids do for food?

Most of my mom's meals were great. The one dish that she made that I don't care too much for is her potato salad. Too much mayo and onion, not enough mustard and pickle relish. But every one else seems to like her recipe.

Particularly if you don't know any better, you just try to eat it and go on

Not really a yes or no answer. My mom is a good cook, but she's unimaginative; her menu has varied only slightly in 50 years.

She still makes the best brownies and pie crust ever, though.

I never liked my Mother. But she could ( and still can I am told) cook beautifully. A lot of very elaborate French dishes.
