When I do the "big cooking," like I will tomorrow, I make my husband or oldest child the sous-chef, in charge of cleaning and putting things away. I try to clean up as I go but am not always successful, especially because I may have several things going at once. Chopping this while that is coming to a boil--moving things around in the oven--whisking something together because I have to add it in a minute--like that. I am a cooking machine but have not perfected the art of cleaning as I go. I am okay at it but appreciate the help!
I like to clean as I go, This year for the very first time we are actually using Solo plates.
The only thing for cleanup will be the silverware, serving plates and pots. a few other things of course.
I make ahead as much as I can early in the day, then load up the dishwasher and run it, so it's empty for the dinner dishes. Right after dinner, we load it up and get the pots soaking. DH usually washes the pans and the wine glasses by hand.
Clean as we go. My dad does most of the cooking and cleans most of the pots and pans while he's at it, then my mom and I (and perhaps a cousin or so) will clean the table, rinse off the dishes, put the leftovers away, and put the dishes in the washer. Run the washer, turn on the coffee, and after dessert (or, after everyone leaves) we empty the washer and replace it with dessert dishes. And eat some leftovers...
I clean up as I go. I can't stand to work in a dirty kitchen or a sink full of dirty dishes.
I have a dishwasher that has a quick clean-up cycle that can complete the cycle in about 30 minutes. No heat dry but I can get lots of dishes cleaned in a hurry.
I clean a little as I go but I usually don't ask for help making the meal. From serving to cleanup to drying dishes I've done my job already so I have a glass of wine and give moral support.
