Soak the cook top surface, wipe, apply Bar Keepers Friend ( powder or liquid ), rub the surface, wipe, repeat if needed. It works great for me

Try magic erasers, I use them for just about everything.

I have a glass top range - it is 2 years old and seems to clean up just fine...maybe the older ones were more difficult to clean up. I love how easy it is to clean.

They are once they are clean and you do it regularly...then there are those that leave a grease gunked mess for the next ones...I don't see how anyone could have even cooked on the mess we had...we seriously thought about hauling it out to the garage and getting a new stove...but the last I wanted to buy was a new electric stove...so being the obsessed one I was, I cleaned it, but still scrubbing the **** off the stainless outside of the oven...

Granny I swear, even though I'm not in a financial position to do it right now, I've even seriously considered getting a new glasstop for the damn thing. But, first I'm going to give it a go with all these suggestions from the nice posters = )

I personally could not cook on a glass top or an induction burner (is that what they are called?).

But, of course the problem with the mess is that the glass gets scratched and the food particles adhere to the scratches. Glass can be polished and flat glass can be polished easily. All you really need is the right series of abrasive and a rotary drill attachment. Read up on abrasives, but the right abrasive series will make glass good as new.

Or, drag it out to the street where it belongs!

This is what I do for burnt on spills. As others have mentioned, it's important to keep up with the clean-up on these. You have my sympathies if you inherited one that was allowed to acquire build-up.

I actually really love my glass-top stove and prefer it to any others I have had including gas.

I have used Bar Keepers Friend on mine also, and it does do a good job.
