The other place I considered hitting (because of Food Network) is either Al's Italian Beef or Mr. Beef.
I would go to Portillo's instead of either of those places for a beef. Just my opinion but I have lived in the Chicago area my whole life, and Portillo's beefs are the best!

Just to be clear, I'm talking about the wait for the food to be prepared, not for seating. Unless there's an unusually high number of people in town such as for a convention or trade show or the like, you probably won't have to wait to be seated. You can alleviate some of the wait time for preparation by calling in your order about 30 minutes (if deep dish) or 15 minutes (if conventional pizza) before you arrive.

Sometimes I think I'm the only persons who ever lived in Chicago who is "meh" on Portillo's.
