Do you consume food beyond the best buy date (dry & canned goods) ? I do but usually no more then 1 yr. I just dumped alot of dry & canned goods that were stamped best by 2008 & 2009.
I may go a few yrs beyond the date but no more. I have medicines i still use time to time that "expired" a yr or so back. I just double up & it works fine. My doctor said it wont hurt me but to not make a habit out of it. Meds arent cheap just like food, gas, etc.
I do....but not for too long past date....even if they are "ok", the quality/vitamins etc. diminishes so much....
Have you seen this site? stilltasty.com
"Shelf life" of dry, canned, fresh, frozen etc. A good site to check when in doubt~

I just can't do it unless it's only a couple of months. I am also carefully checking expiration dates on products that I purchased. It must be the economy as I find so many items on store shelves with expired dates or dates expiring in a few months.
Very often. Not that I buy stuff that is old, but it happens that I store it too long.
And believe or not, I never got sick because I ate something past ( or even way past ) the expiration date)
Way past the date could be years ...
I have few glasses of "canned" food I made few years ago ( 2005-6 maybe??).
I just opened one two days ago, and I am still alive and kicking
My SIL was raised in a home with a microbiologist, and my brother likes to joke that their family philosophy was "If in doubt throw it out," where as our family philosophy was "If in doubt try it out." We're all still alive.
