I don't know what it's like where you are, but where I am it has been really hard to find a good Plain Damn Chocolate Ice Cream.
Recently, Breyers has popped up in the local market with Chocolate Ice cream, and Holy Mackerel it's good. It is really, really good. The last one I bought, all the other shelves were full of other flavors and there was only one left of this.
Just make sure that the box you buy says "Ice Cream" on it and not "Artificial Simulated Dairy Food Product". I don't like the Breyers Artificial Simulated Dairy Food Products at all.
Brings back memories of old-fashioned milkshakes. In fact, we generally don't have ice cream in the freezer, but occasionally get it for milkshakes, and they have to be chocolate. In those cases, nothing but Perry's (I believe it's regional) chocolate will do. IMO, it's the best.
I don't like dark chocolate ice cream, I like the lighter variety. There was a brand here called Sealtest, and they made sort of a lighter version of rocky road called heavenly hash. It was the best ice cream I ever had.
This is something I'm going to miss dearly when I move from Chicago to Phoenix. There is a local place, Oberweis Dairy, which makes HEAVENLY chocolate ice cream, eggnog, etc. It's out of this world. I don't have it often, but I do love it.

My husband turned me onto Oberweis products when we moved here a couple of years ago. He had lived in the Chicago area for about 30 years prior to moving to Ohio and then moving back - according to him Oberweis is THE BEST. It's pretty good stuff but awfully fattening. I still miss Ritters Frozen Custard from back in Ohio
chocolate was one of my favorite flavors growing up..
