Trust me, if you want to live in a better world, fixing the amount of food people eat or take home should be on the bottom of your list. Get your priorities right.

whats wrong with throwing away food? food is a renewable resource, we can always grow more of it. there is no reason for anyone to feel guilty for throwing away food, they are helping the economy.

There are a lot of folks, including myself, that get annoyed at what some people do, from wasting food to not flushing the toilet in a public restroom (not to change the thread). Have to agree with the OP that way too many people waste the food they buy in a restaurant. But, then again, I really wonder sometimes how much food a restaurant throws away each night. I'm sure a number of buffet's do that, due to the amount of food they have to cook/prepare.
As for wife and I, we ALWAYS take home any food that we have left over from dining. Nothing like getting two meals for the price of one!
I think way to many folks take statements/questions like the OP has WAY TO personally! A lot of us have "curious minds" and those "curiousities" come out in threads just like this one. We aren't telling anyone how to conduct their life, but fact is.......too much food does get wasted!
nope, we are not taking anything too personally, the OP is..I happen to not waste food, but the reasoning isn't quite like his: send the food to Afica, give me a break. I think, if we pay for it, we have the right to do what we want with it and I, truthfully have more important things to worry about than what the person at the table next to me did or did not eat.

I think the one thing that bothers me the most is when parents and or whoever is doing the ordering for the little ones at the table: they order adult size plates etc and the 2-5 yr old's can't even eat 25% of it +-. We would order for ourselves and share.
worked for us.

Canadians are astounded when they travel south to the States...by the size of your portions..why in the world do you think more and more is better? Your plates are so full that it reminds me of a show of wealth - that it is a status symbol - to toss half the food out... also - for those gluttons that eat till they can not breath...physical disalbity awaits you - to have a butt three feet wide and legs that can not function because they rub together is akin to a crippling disease.

Again, you are missing my point. You say next time you are at a restaurant look around and see the wasted food. That is exactly what someone would have thought of you if they looked around and saw your wasted food on the few occasssions you admitted to doing it.

You are perfectly happy to explain away the very actions you are comdemning that you have admitted to doing because you "only did it a few times" when you have no clue in a general setting how often these people have done it.

Oh, brother.............jealous?
I get two Big Macs and an extra large fries at each sitting, I average 8 - 10 tacos with extra cheese and tomatoes when I go to Taco Bell (I've eaten 15 at one time), I eat about 4 plates full of food at any buffets I go to (plus deserts).....I eat like that very often.....whenever I can.....and I'm in fine shape. Millions of folks are like that.
More IS better.
Yep, it's a "show of wealth".....a "status symbol"............
.....death awaits you, too.

Nita
In Milwaukee, there are documented cases of people buying lobster with their food stamps and then selling it for BIG time cash.
