Coffee is the only substance I'm aware of which is both good for you and addictive.

Yes - good for you. Look into it a bit and you'll start to find articles (including a recent one in the NYT) about it's antioxidant properties. Really. I'm not a chemist or a pharmacologist, but I've seen information about this a number of times and from pretty reputable sources.

And yes - addictive. It's a mild addiction, but it's a physiological one.

There's more surprising information - but I figure I'll keep it at that for now. In the next installment - THRILL to the story of the secret national brand which saves us caffeine slaves a fortune and surprises the snobs with it's high quality. Perhaps the highest quality nationally-distributed brand there is.

Coffee anyone?

Slurp...

Coffee is just about the only vice I have left.
(I suppose that depends on one's definition of "vice.") I liked strong and foo-foo coffee drinks before Starbucks was even invented so I am delighted coffee shops have become so popular.
I read a scholarly little article somewhere - apparently some types of coffee are higher in important antioxidants than the much-touted and presently trendy green tea.

No way! You need to try Dunkin Donuts regular blend. I have to mix mine half and half with decaf due to an irregular heart beat that acts up if I have too much caffeine (coffee, tea or colas). I used to drink any brand that was on sale but began drinking DD and now am "hooked". In my opinion, Starbucks is a gimmick. Their regular plain coffee is so bad that you have to drink the expensive concoctions just to tolerate the taste.

Bottoms up

Stewarts Coffee (not sold at any of my local grocers here in San Marcos)
was my favorite. I have since switched to tea (getting kind of health conscious in my middle age ) but man there are times I could kill for a
a hot, smooth, great smelling cup of joe. A good java and a brisk morning
walk got me thru a divorce in the 90s. Yeah coffee is good.

I feel like I'm one of the only people in the world who doesn't drink coffee. I love the smell, but don't like the taste. Yes, I'm sure that of the thousands of coffee flavors out there, there has to be one that I'd like, but I don't really care to try to find it. Generally, I'm not a fan of hot drinks, except of course for hot chocolate on a cold snowy day.
