I forget the name of the place, and it probably isn't there, but if you had a time machine that would get me back in time 45 years. But it was on the Rembrandsplein in Amsterdam. A wonderful filet of sole poached in wine and served with a cream sauce. Some steamed veggies went with it along with a really nice chardonnay.
Or was it that grilled salmon in Scotland...........
There was that nice smoked paprika sauce on broiled chicken in Ottawa in a Portuguese restaurant,
but then probably the best meal I've ever had was a 28 day dry aged 20 ounce rib eye grilled perfectly, served with a green chili/bourbon sauce, asparagus on the side with a wild rice pilaf, and a perfectly steamed artichoke with a Bearnaise dipping sauce for an appetizer. There was a Korean Melon for dessert...........but that was at home, not a restaurant...........
When visiting friends in Brittany, our host took us to a rural establishment near Ploërmel, which was a stone bullring hundreds of year old, with no electricity. The four of us were seated in a dining room by ourselves, in complete silence, completely bare except for an extremely old table and chairs and a fireplace. I have no idea if anyone else was eating in other rooms. The elderly waitress served us in hushed tones and moved about sylphlike. The meal was simply bread and wine and a terrine set in the middle of the table.
What restaurant would you go out to tonight that you remember as the best place you ever ate? Sorry, you only get your free pass for one night only.
I think the best meal that I can recall was at a little steak house in Alamosa, Colorado called True Grits. The boiled crab legs were the best I had ever tasted. I would go there again in a heart-beat.
Lonesome Dove in Fort Worth, hands down. It's owned by former Iron Chef Tim Love.
The restaurant is usually closed on Sundays, but a good friend of mine booked it for a private wedding reception. I can't imagine what that cost, but the meal was almost a religious experience. The garlic-stuffed beef tenderloin was the best I've ever had!

Can't I have 2 cause my favorite isn't in business anymore?
I guess my favorite was a wonderful restaurant in Hong Kong and i can't even remember the name of it. I will say, it really wasn't overly expensive for the qualtiy.
The olne I remember but it is no longer there was called Vinetos and it was near Fieherman's wharf in San Franciso. This was about 45 years ago.
I would love to have a free pass to have one of her home made meals and a few hours with her just one more time. Never miss an opportunity to have a meal with the ones you love you never know when it will be your last time breaking bread together.

Absolutely agree with you. My grandmother made the best meals, though very simple. I would love to have one more meal with her.
