I would be disowned if I did not make deviled eggs for a party at my own house and bake a chocolate pudding cake for my nephew when we have family gatherings.

What do friends and family expect you to make for events?

Texas Fudge Cake. I went on a diet and stopped baking, went to a party and brought a salad, and my friend told me, he had waited forever for a piece of my "cake".

I suppose I should make one for the Fourth of July picnic.

The key to this cake, is to use dark cocoa. Not regular cocoa.

Same here, with the deviled eggs.

I got lazy once and brought something else (store-bought) to a family gathering -- won't do that again!

Well, I'm too far away from my family now to even get invited anymore, but back in the good ole' days - it was my Cheese Ball (beef, garlic, onion) with cracker assortment, of course , and Cherry Cobbler with Vanilla ice cream.

Not me so much but if my mom does not make her macaroni salad for gatherings my husband gets disappointed because it's his favorite. She uses white cheddar, mayo, onion powder, elbows and salt. Not the typical macaroni salad most of us are used too but it's a big hit. For my MIL it's her cheesecake. There isn't really anything special that I make that people say I must bring that.

For Thanksgiving, I'm "in charge of" the candied yam casserole.
For Passover, I'm the Queen of Charoses.
At my sister's annual neighborhood picnic (it's a common area in a condo, and she's not allowed to use the lawn for parties unless they're parties where all residents are invited, so she makes it a block party and invites the family and friends ) - I help her make the devil's punch (big can of Hi-C red, 2-litre bottle of ginger ale, a jug of Thunderbird wine, frozen strawberries, and an un-scooped, intact, whole bowl of multi-swirl sherbet in the center of the punch bowl. No ice needed.) and I'm in charge of the watermelon basket (it's a whole watermelon carved with "crenelated" walls and a handle, scooped out and refilled with chunks of watermelon and other melon chunks, and berries).

My sister doesn't go to family parties without bringing a couple dozen deviled eggs.
