Two come immediately to mind:
In Pittsburgh: Old Europe - one of the few that specialized in Eastern Euro dishes and did them well. Not just pierogi, but stuffed cabbage, stews/bigos, some game dishes, solid goulash/paprikash dishes.

In Boston (Cambridge): Forest Cafe - it was the closest thing to an authentic Mexican restaurant in all New England in the 80s and 90s before going steeply downhill under new ownership and closing last year. Less than half the menu was stuff in tortillas and there wasn't refried beans/rice/sour cream and cheese on everything like ChiChi's and every other Tex-Mex place masquerading as 'authentic' Mexican.

I had such fond memories of Farrell's Ice Cream too!

There used to be a really nice buffet that we used to go to when I was young. It was called the Boston Tea Party (I think). It remember it being expensive since all the food was top notch and your main "entree" included a whole Maine lobster too. The restaurant was dimly lit with the buffet stations off in the rear of the restaurant. My family always dined there with out of town guests.

There was a place in the mall when I was a teen called Ferrel's Ice-Cream and Restaurant - they were famous for having birthday parties and singing employees - kind of like a Chuck-E-Cheese for grown-ups, does anyone remember such a place. It was in the Atlanta area.

Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor; I know there are still a handful of restaurants in California still, but the chain has otherwise disappeared.
Oh wow! I didn't read your post until after I posted I didn't realize they still had any Ferrells Ice Cream Parlors anywhere. It was a "fun" place to be - impossible to go there if you were sad or feeling down.

That sounds like an awesome place. First time I've ever heard of it. Nice indeed with Maine Lobster as an entree choice!
