I saw the pan on Amazon for 20 bucks. Looks like a takoyaki pan, kind of. . I'd never heard of these. So I looked 'em up. They look freaking awesome.

I've had them once (In Solvang, California). They were pretty tasty.

Ditto for me on Solvang. There's also a bakery that sets up at one of our local Ikea stores occasionally. My best bud gave me a cast iron aebleskiver pan for Christmas one year and we had a lot of fun making them. You can use just about any batter, by the way - pancake, muffin, even Duncan Hines cake batter.

Yes. They take time to make, and everyone eats them as fast as you make them. If you have a big family, get two pans. Put oil in each hole...that makes them good. We made ours filled with raspberry jam, topped with powdered sugar.

Thanks for providing the photo. I have seen those pans in secondhand stores and other places for years without being able to imagine what they were used for. Spherical pancakes never crossed my mind.
