I was brought up hunting Morells every spring. We always bread them & fry like okra. Delicious.

My 91 year old father still likes to tell this story: It was sometime in the early 1960`s when he asked his neighbor(an older fellow who immigrated from eastern Europe several decades before) if the mushrooms in my father`s yard were safe to eat.Old Martin told dad,"Steve,if you want to die just eat those mushrooms".The next morning as it was getting light Martin was in dad`s yard filling his basket with mushrooms.

gmagoo, that is funny. The older gentleman was quite the joker/kidder, he didn't have dying on his mind he wanted those shroom's all to himself, haha.

I'm not afraid of mushroom's as long as I know where they came from before I eat them. I love fresh Morel's fried, place the mushrooms sliced vertical, roll in flour then put in a buttered frying pan or electric skillet then sprinkle with seasoning. Just love 'em. I like store bought fresh mushroom's as well by themselves or in a veggie dip, also like the can mushroom's in recipes. Sometimes I add can or fresh mushrooms from the produce in spaghetti, chili, roast, other scrumptious dish I make I'll add mushrooms in.

I agree with this. Since they really don't taste like anything, I don't understand why anyone would be adamant against eating them.
If you sauté them in butter, they are awesome, but otherwise pretty tasteless.

Wow - have you ever tried fresh Porcini or Oyster mushrooms - or Lobster mushrooms? You may never consider a mushroom "tasteless" again . In fact, the Lobster mushroom is actually a mushroom parasite and its flavor is enhanced by the type of mushroom it attacks.

I love mushrooms. I would be hesitant to gather wild mushrooms myself only because I really wouldn't know how to identify the poisonous ones from the non-poisonous...which could be problematic, lol.
