I like to cook. But I really love to create fine meals. Not like fancy schmancy restaurant, 250 buck a plate for two bites, kinda stuff. Just good, imaginative, meals, that leaves good leftovers.

I live alone, so I don't do this everyday. But, when my lil' gal and I get together, or a few of us get together for food and horseshoes et al, I like to go all out. Its just FUN, to go the the butcher, and the grocery store, and think over a process and result.

I don't use recipes, personally. I like improv. But, to get in that mode, certain things really motivate my imagination. So, what are the factors that motivate you to get really into preparing a meal? Please share stories about best personal creations. Funny stories, accidental discoveries of unique flavors, indispensible spices, and such. Anything having to do with fun and flavor is fair game.
