Are there any still around? I used to go there as a kid and I would always order the fried clam strips with fries and then get a sundae for dessert. I don't eat clam strips now which is funny.

As of June 2012, only two Howard Johnson's restaurants remain, both dating to the original Howard Johnson's company, one in Lake Placid, New York, the other Bangor, Maine. As of May 2013, the Lake Placid location is for sale but is still operating.

Brings back memories. Loved Hojo's. Used to also get a milkshake--they had great ice cream.

I miss the all you could eat fried flounder dinners they served in Michigan in the 60's and those 28 flavors of ice cream along the highway when traveling.

Were they always part of the hotel, or were there stand alone ones without a hotel? I can't remember.
