I saw a television commercial this evening stating that Yoplait no longer makes their yogurts with high fructose corn syrup. Are they now using actual pure cane sugar in this stuff, like food manufacturers did in the old days before our food supply became so toxic?

First, high fructose corn syrup is not toxic. That's just activist propaganda. Cane sugar and beet sugar is about 50/50 fructose and sucrose, where as HFCS is about 60/40. And fructose is the dominant sugar in fruit, not exactly a toxic substance. Ironically, the fructose has a sweeter taste, so they can use less of it, and it's already a liquid, so it's more convenient to use as an ingredient in sodas and yogurt and sauces, etc.

If you really want a healthier choice, switch to unsweetened yogurt. It's tangy and tart, kind of an acquired taste, but it has the probiotic cultures you want, plus the calcium and other nutrients you expect from a dairy product, minus the extra calories.

It's true that yogurt did not become popular in Western countries until a lot of sugar was added, but now the most popular brands are like candy, or ice cream. It's the idea that everything has to be sweet that is toxic, not the kind of sugar they use.

I don't know how they taste, but I stopped eating Yoplait a long time ago because there are just so many other yogurts I like better. They've always been "meh" to me, but maybe they're different these days.

Is that so? Can you show me one medical journal that states high fructose corn syrup is not awful for one's health?

It's not that corn syrup that is inherently bad, it's just the way it is being overused that is bad. A one cup serving of yogurt that contains 1/4 cup of sugar is going to be bad for you no matter what kind of sugar is used.

Default Cancer cells slurp up fructose, US study finds

Quote:
Aug 2 (Reuters) - Pancreatic tumor cells use fructose to divide and proliferate, U.S. researchers said on Monday in a study that challenges the common wisdom that all sugars are the same.
Tumor cells fed both glucose and fructose used the two sugars in two different ways, the team at the University of California Los Angeles found.
They said their finding, published in the journal Cancer Research, may help explain other studies that have linked fructose intake with pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest cancer types.
"These findings show that cancer cells can readily metabolize fructose to increase proliferation," Dr. Anthony Heaney of UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center and colleagues wrote.

I've enjoyed Yoplait for years off and on. I have had 3-4 over the past week and if they've changed the ingredients, I could not tell.

I am a rep for Chobani. It is the most popular yogurt in the world. It has no artificial ingredients, double protein, and probiotics. If you want to put a bunch of other stuff in your body, buy something else.
