Maybe you could use them for pizza crust, slather with pizza sauce, cheese, put them in the toaster oven.

The brands sold in health food stores are better. People practicing a diet called macrobiotics often include these in their diet. The health food store varieties are thicker, made with more rice and have more flavor. I find them to be fresher and have a pleasant (for rice cakes!) grain flavor.

Try sugar-free apple butter, peanut butter or any nut butter as a spread. Also, any flavor of hummus. Egg salad is nice, as is mock egg salad made with tofu. I find the health food brands are good simply as-is. If you only know rice cakes from the brands at the supermarket, I encourage you to pick up a bag at the health food store. They will be much more expensive BUT they will also be better, at least in my opinion. I will never forget the first time I ate the supermarket kind. I had to spit them out, they were gross.

One of my favorite snacks are rice cakes - this brand/flavor: Rice Cakes > Eco-Farmed Honey Nut Rice Cakes with this peanut butter Products | Earth Balance All Natural Peanut Butter | Earth Balance . Healthy and nutritious. :-)

Havent had them in yrs either but I used to like the buttered popcorn or cheddar cheese flavors - lubby posted some excellent topping suggestions (truthfully woudlnt have considered the egg salad or tuna salad but both are decent suggestions). Maybe a slice of American cheese w/b good or perhaps mixing lowfat cottage cheese w/ a tad of horseradish might spice up a plain rice cake. Would have to forego the bacon that was mentioned though (as good as it sounds).

I would put a bit of mayonnaise on them and then a slice of cheese. I love them that way. The other suggestions of hummus, egg or tuna salad, etc. are good ideas.

Yes, the pre-fab ones are Styrofoam. Have you tried the fresh ones Asian markets sell? A big difference.
