OK I know this study is sponsored by avocado people and is aimed at diabetics but it stands to reason that half an avocado would work for others as well. I love them.
Food may help you feel full at lunch and avocados are food. Eat a whole one and you'll feel even fuller, and they're good for you anyway... But expensive.
from what I see on nutrition data, a half an avocado will add 161 calories to your meal and its mostly fat. I would say it will probably help you be more full, but there are more efficient ways to use those calories to fill you up.
I know I know, its magical fat and its a magical "healthy" food. yeah yeah yeah, I don't subscribe to the magical foods theories.
I love avocados. My dream would be to have a blooming year round avocado tree right in my backyard. I would say this works for any meal.
Yes! That would be awesome, except it would be my backyard. There is never a wrong time to enjoy avocados. I must be different, because they don't make me feel full, so I only stop eating because I've run out.
Wouldn't doubt this at all. Avocados are high in healthy fats. Full fat foods almost always make you feel more satiated than non-fat sugar loaded crap. As always, fatty foods are perfectly fine if you exercise portion control. As the French believe, the idea is to eat the best, and eat the best you can every single day, but just in smaller quantities, so that your brain is happy everyday. The French don't starve themselves and then eat like a pig at "all you can eat buffets" on the weekend. All you can eat doesn't exist in France, and maybe it is this philosophy of eating anything you want that is of good quality every single day is why the French paradox exists. Low fat, low calorie diets can take a hike. Eat whatever you want as long it is balanced, good quality, and portion controlled.
I'll eat a whole avocado at lunch, make some guacamole, eat with chips. It's not a bad lunch, but for me I need to eat meat, it's the only thing that makes me feel full.
It is important to note that the study was funded by the Haas Avocado Board. So the study should carry just as much weight as those healthy chocolate studies funded by the Mars Candy Company.
