I'd have to give it to Bojangles, though it may be a case of "absence makes the heart grow fonder" since I haven't had it since I moved this far south and away from the place. Popeye's is a fair substitution (spicy), and of course KFC will do in a pinch. But if we are to include boneless chicken, Chick-Fil-A is really good--probably second behind 'Bo'.

The best I've had has always been the small independent places.

For chains KFC is still the best in my opinion, but on occasion I prefer Popeyes. Moot point these days as neither one is within reasonable driving distance if I get a sudden chicken craving.

KFC is awful. Hardee's is fantastic. And BoJangles is also yummy.

Of the big chains, I like Church's. I really like Go Chicken Go, but it's only in KC, AFAIK.

Gus's Fried Chicken in and around Memphis, TN. The original Gus's was started in Mason, TN in the 1950s and has expanded around Memphis over the years. It's fabulous, though I'm biased as a native Memphian. Still, any time I've ever taken a visitor there, they get hooked and request it every time they come back to town.

Of the national chains, Popeye's is by far the best, particularly their spicy fried chicken.

Here's the undisputed Top 3:

1) KFC Extra Crispy (all white meat)
2) Church's
3) Wal-Mart (in a pinch)

Walmart? Really? I totally dispute that.
