How nice it would be to be able to make tasty meals with minimum flavoring ingredients. I just threw away many bottles of spices that were bought 2-3 years ago but hardly used because it's unlikely I'll ever use them. Mind you, they were not cheap.

I avoided salt for years... until I learned that my poor digestion and some skin problems were due to sodium deficiency and that the body uses on average 500 mg of sodium daily. So, I now make sure I get at least 500 mg of sodium daily.
There's sodium in natural foods, but not much.
I watch my salt intake because excess sodium has detriments, but I often add measured amounts of sea salt to my food to make sure I get at least 500 mg of sodium daily.
I usually only use sea salt, black pepper, turmeric, onions & garlic for spices in my cooking.
Without spices, some foods are less appetizing and can cause a low appetite which is good for people who want to lose weight and keep a low weight. I think the excessive use of flavor enhancements in processed foods these days--especially sugars & salt--is one of the major causes of many people overeating these days.
