I love reg water, but since giving up pop, when a craving for carbonation hits me, I head for H2Oh or Mendota Springs. Love their lime flavored waters.
I love sparkling water. Perrier is the best but too expensive to buy regularly. La Croix is another favorite as it has a hint of flavor without any sweeteners.
I love sparkling water. Mineral waters are too expensive, but my favorite regular sparkly is LaCroix. Even then I just drink it as a treat, not all day long.
Love the bubbles - they tingle the tongue in a pleasant way!!! But... I try to avoid a carbonated tap water. I look for mineral carbonated water, that is from a spring and contains many essential minerals such as iron, calcium and magnesium.
And yes, water does have taste. The taste depends on the source (yes, source other than tap). Glacier and rainwaters which have no or virtually no minerals, and no obvious taste. Alpine waters has a medium to high mineral content and a strong mineral taste. Alkaline waters have a tendency to taste sweeter and softer. Also temperature makes a difference to the way we perceive water.
In nature, some famous mineral springs produce naturally-carbonated spring waters. But almost all waters are artificially carbonated these days because producers can control the size and persistence of bubbles. You can get waters with different levels of carbonation.
Despite enormous advances in can-lining technology, canned water dissolves bits of metal through microscopic holes in the coating, affecting the flavor and some people are still capable of detecting the aluminum flavor.
Glass is is better, because is impermeable and flavor-neutral.

Not all mineral waters are expensive, some liter bottles are often for sale here way under a buck.
Look for TopoChico and Mineragua - both pretty inexpensive waters from Mexico.
San Pellegrino is also my fave. I tend to like drinking sparking water when I am drinking. Otherwise I drink flat water.
