Oh, I've eaten walnuts, banana, and mayo tons of times. I call it Walbama. I'm totally lying. I wonder if some of you are making things up to see if anyone will admit to trying it. Haha But this actually sounds good to me, so I'll try it.
I hate to throw away food, so I sometimes mix up leftovers in a bowl, top it with a fried egg and I'm set.
It's sweet tasting like frog legs are. Several of my local lake taverns serve all of these on their menu. It's hilarious to see tourists and out of State folks visiting try them for the first time. You think they were gonna die until they tasted it. Mostly egged on by a local family member or friend to do it. Once they taste it, they go MmmMmMMMmm at least 98% of the time.
My daddy's favourite night time snack was to sprinkle freshly popped popcorn into a saucer of milk and then eat like cereal. Sometimes I would join him in this simple repast.
The secret was to only put 2-3 pieces of popcorn at a time, because any more, and it would get too soggy.
My dad, a child of the Depression, would eat a tall glass of milk with
saltines...no sugar.
I said, ick, and he said, Try it...Well, by gosh for a 6 year old it was darn good!
Imagine a kid in the Depression...it was very filing and comforting.
Very.
Reminds me of my German 6th grade teacher...he told us about the food rationing...
how they would boil water, throw in anything they had... a potato....and
dip the wax paper the butter came in to get every smidgeon of fat they could.
-cabbage (seriously, why? It's little more than firm lettuce and sooooo cheap and useful)
-fish sauce (although if I smell it directly, I will lose my appetite)
-mussels
-spinach (another one I don't get)

My dad, born in 1918, would always have a couple slices of bread along with dinner. He would fold a slice in half and dip it in his milk or coffee.
I cannot believe Sushi hasn't been mentioned yet, in particular a couple of my favorites...Sea Urchin and Salmon Roe.
