My favorite brand of fruitcake from childhood is now available again. It's the Jane Parker brand, which was the name of the baked goods line at the now defunct A&P.

This delicious cake was brought back to the market place in 2017, when a company bought the rights to the Jane Parker name and its recipes. This classic cake (loaf or ring shapes) is filled with raisins, citron, orange peel, glazed pineapple, red cherries, and pecans.

You can have either dark or classic light versions. It's now available for mail order from the Jane Parker website. Shipping is free.

Brings back good memories for me.

Interesting job!

Their's is quite good. fresh and moist. Their least expensive fruit cake is made from a recipe that dates back to the 1600s. It serves 6 to 8 and it retails for $37.98.
No. 73406

My favorite is No. 73515. No. 79128 is also good. Each are $39.95. Those last two are not suitable for children.

Is “no nuts” even possible? That’s “Nuttier than a fruitcake”!

Lol. Yes, it is possible to have delicious fruitcake without nuts.

The fruitcake that I like is very similar to a plum pudding.

Candied fruit, UGH. I retain unfond childhood memories of dry, cloying fruitcake laden with jellylike bits of maraschino cherries (red and green) and other one-dimensionedly sweet UFOs inside. With nuts that were no longer crisp.

No thanks to that kind of fruitcake!

I looked at recipes and descriptions of fruitcakes that some posters here have raved about, and those look enticing. The Vermont Country store versions and some of the “black” Caribbean ones sound good.

A buttery, moist, molasses-sweetened dense cake modestly studded with unsweetened bits of dried apricot, dried Bing cherry, dried tart cherry, golden raisins, and crisp nuts would be my notion of a good one.

In the meantime, pass the buttered popcorn instead...

Baked the fruitcakes today, they are cooling off now and later on will add the sherry.

I love Claxton fruit cake. I get the dark one. You can get them by mail order. I slice them thin and let them dissolve in my mouth. Last year our local supermarket did not order any fruitcakes.

The best fruitcake I ever had was in Quebec. Goes for onion soup too.

"Like we say in St. Olaf, Christmas without fruitcake is like St. Sigmund's Day without the headless boy."
