I like to try different types now & then. Right now I have some Uniekaas robusto gouda that I bought at the Nugget Market (California).

Any cheese I can find. It's all good. Tastes better without the bread/crackers too!

Thanks for suggesting eating cheese with apple. I had never thought of that, but I just tried and it's great.

Ripe pears are good, too.

I too love all kinds of cheese, but my absolute favorite is a port wine cheese. Not in the spread form but in a sliced form. We occasionally go to a neighborhood restaurant and they have a cheese board appetizer that has some port wine cheese, very yummy. The port wine is on the sweet side and the cheese is usually a sharp or dry cheese. I also like to eat slices on a plate with either grapes, apples or pears. I'm going to have some now....

Once I ate too much cheese within a couple days and I had terrible constipation. I also read that cheese and other dairy can cause constipation. But these days I ate same amount yet never had constipation. So what's the explanation?

The Swiss and Dutch do although they eat a lot on bread too. The French eat probably more cheese alone than on something. I love aged Dutch cheeses :-) there are a lot more than just Gauda and Edamer too.

I sometimes go to the Gauda area to race my sailboat and always try to go to the cheese market.

Here in Europe Gauda and Edamer are now protected names so Gauda can only be called such if it comes from Gauda... I think the same goes for the Swiss types but I am not sure.

How do we all feel about store brand cheeses? You know the type I mean: Kraft blocks or even Kroger's... Everyone seems to like to shop at Trader Joe's and then complain about money problems lately, but I'm a fan of choosing generic whenever possible to save cash.

?

Trader Joes is good value. Especially their large cheese selection. That Basque cheese they have there is very good. They have their own branded foods which generally results in lower costs.

Are you confusing it with people shopping at Wholefoods and then complaining about the price?

You also seem confused about store brand cheeses. Kraft isn't a store brand cheese.
