A buddy and I set up a bourbon blind tasting once with half a dozen of our friends. Each sampled six different brands set up in numbered shot glasses with an ice water chaser. They could sample or double sample in any order they wanted.
The winner was Old Crow. Sometimes the price tag is just marketing.
