This is how to peel a completely boiled egg in a glass of water.

Have you tried it? I abhor peeling eggs. I always end up with "that one" that won't peel to save my life and it ends up a carved out mess. Of course, next time I boil a batch, I'm going to have to give this a try.

I just roll a hard cooked egg over a hard surface, and get a similar result. Eggs must be fresh to peel easily.

How can you tell if a egg is bad? Someone told me once if a egg floats in a bowl of water it's bad. Is this true?

Too messy and too much trouble.

Most of the time when I have them it's with my salad which I take to work everyday. After I boil my eggs I drop them in ice water for about 10 minutes. They peal very easily.

That's what I've heard, though I've never had one that would float. If I did, I'd probably crack it and see if it looked, smelled OK.

I thought they had to be older because the membrane pulls away from the shell more easily. We have chickens so our eggs are very fresh, and peeling them is a massive pain in the neck. My mom always says to roll them around and then just peel them under running water ... yeah, that doesn't help at all. If I have to have hard-boiled eggs for a salad or something, I just buy them that way. I hate peeling them.

I've never had trouble peeling eggs, even when they're fresh. I simply run them under cold water until they're cool enough to handle. A hard tap at one end of the egg, then peel. Couldn't be easier.

I saw this video a few days ago, and decided to try it since I was making egg salad for my husband's and my lunch over the weekend. I can say it works quite well.

For the first egg, I put it in a short wide glass and shook it with my hand over it - water did go all over, but it worked well. I next tried an egg in a tall narrow glass, and again, water did splash, though not as badly as the wider glass.

Next, I put an egg in a magic bullet container and screwed the lid on... this worked very well and there was no splashing. I then tried two eggs in the magic bullet container, and that also worked well. I did find it a bit annoying to have to screw the lid on the container, but overall, it really did work.

You can peel garlic cloves in a similar fashion by simply shaking them in a screw top jar or such - but no water.
