I can't remember ever eating cheese made from raw milk, but the idea sounds good - it's got to be more aromatic and have a more complex flavor than the pasteurized. I wonder if it's legal to sell ..... from what I remember the European Union doesn't allow the export, nor the US allow imports. Maybe US raw artisan cheeses could be sold in health food stores? At any rate, French cheeses are da bomb as far as I'm concerned: Unlocking France's Secrets To Safer Raw Milk Cheese : The Salt : NPR
Last I heard the US is the one that banned imported raw milk cheeses unfortunately. Due to the threat of Listeria. I for one love raw milk and raw sheep milk cheeses. I am bummed I can't get some of my favorite cheeses. I have tasted them with the "cooked" milk and Blergh.
In my state we can't legally buy raw milk but across the state line into SC you can. I am sure they have raw milk cheeses there too. I grew up drinking raw milk as a kid. So delicious.
Love dairy but it does not agree with me too much.
Yes, I have eaten raw cheese before, no problems. Well, I guess the one time I got stupid and TRIED to pick a piece of mold off some raw cheese as opposed to throwing it away........dumb, dumb, dumb. Ended up getting Campylobacter, sick as a dog for about 5 days...........ended up finally going to the emergency room and getting pumped full of drugs, YUCK!
