Like snacking on dark chocolate? Then we hope you're not doing it to avoid milk, because the US Food and Drug Administration tested 94 dark-chocolate bars and found milk in 61% of them, including products with descriptions like "may contain milk" or "may contain traces of milk," QZ.com reports.

The FDA undertook their project after consumers complained about reacting badly to dark chocolate. Sure enough, there's no dairy-free heaven in dark-chocolate land: "This can be a problem, since even one small bite of a product containing milk can cause a dangerous reaction in some individuals," a researcher tells Yahoo.

American chocolate sucks. Who eats this crap anyway...

I wonder why FDA has not released the names of the dark chocolate brands that were found to contain milk...

Interesting, BUT...

Like Elnina, I think the headlines should be blurting out the brands. I'd especially be interested in American vs. foreign.

This just reminds me yet again - especially after watching the PBS program on chicken contamination - how poorly the FDA uses the power of the press.

FDA does not care. Period. They are not able to inspect and evaluate domestic and imported products. It is quite apparent that this government organization has a blatant disregard for your health and is most certainly not in the business of "promoting" health. They are endangering public health - by not protecting it.

If this is a problem, why doesn't the FDA publicize the brands? Why tarnish the whole industry, foreign or domestic, unless you are willing to list the brands that are not compliant? Methinks that maybe they cannot prove their allegations but wanted to generate a lot of publicity.

Second, if I was a chocolate producer, I would be posting "may contain traces of milk" and "may contain traces of nuts" on all my packaging. With the litigious nature of American society, I would not allow my business to be held hostage by the plaintiff's bar. If that meant that I list the vegan/allergens crowd as customers, so be it.

Exactly - they dropped a "bomb" stating that in "some" chocolates they dedected milk, but they didn't list them.
They want us to play the dedective. Odd and stupid... and surely not consumer friendly.

Dark chocolate is awful...bitter and nasty. Give me good old milk chocolate. I don't eat enough for it to be a dietary issue!
