#5 Most Addictive Food: Doritos
Like a cheap blended vodka, Doritos are designed to go down in one fast, desperate binge. The recipe for the popular chip was specially designed so that no single flavor overpowers another. When foods lack a dominant flavor, people are less apt to feel full and, in turn, consume more, say researchers. What’s more, one of the first ingredients on the food’s label is monosodium glutamate (MSG), an additive that’s been known to increase appetite and make foods taste more appetizing. And if you thought “Dorito breath” was just a coincidental side effect, think again. The powerful savory taste lingering in your mouth is an example of a tactic called “long hang-time flavor” that’s used to lure snackers into going back for more. With all of these factors working against you, it’s really no wonder you’re defenseless when Doritos come around.
I only agree with two of the foods on the list. M&Ms are hard to put down once I start eating them, and also French fries. They have to be really good fries though, not fast food but maybe Five Guys fries.
I don't care much for Doritos, Cheetos or Oreos. Oreos are ok but fresh baked home made cookies are so much better that I don't waste calories on store-bought cookies. If I am craving cookies I want the real thing and will bake a batch of peanut butter or chocolate chip cookies.
Doritos and Cheetos just taste like artificial flavoring to me.
I was sure sugar would be #1 but they're only listing complete foods not ingredients. I think the crunch factor has a lot to do with it. Surprised Pringles isn't up there with Doritos and Cheetos.
I can walk away from Oreos with absolutely no problem, and a bag of M&Ms will last YEARS in my possession. No appeal whatsoever. Even if I had an overly active sweet tooth to speak of, which I don't, it's not even good chocolate. If I'm going to bother with chocolate, it's going to be WAY better chocolate than that. But in general, sugary snacks really don't tempt me in the least.
Fries, chips, and cheese puffs are more appealing. The only one I'd say functions in a "difficult to stop eating manner for me, though is fries. And, really, for me, that applies to potatoes in basically any and every preparation and context.
The other items on the list? Not so addicting, no.
I can't buy peanut M&Ms for Halloween...bec I can't stop.
Cheetos left open overnight are better then fresh...
Chips of any kind, salsa, quac and a beer....I can't be near them.
