I have a ceramic-insert Crockpot that's 7 years old and off and on I will notice that the dishes I prepare in it will have a slightly metallic or off taste to them. I avoid using canned products in my recipes if I can so it isn't from that stuff. Has anyone else experienced this? What could it be? I'm almost insulted when I taste the dishes that I make that come out of the Crockpot, as I consider myself to be a really good cook, LOL!
My crock pots are about the same age (I have two so I can cook BBQ meat in one and beans in the other) and they don't have a weird taste to them. Sometimes if you cook something on high longer than you should, it can get a strange taste or lose texture, but that's all.
I use nonstick spray in them before I put the food in, and that makes the cleanup easy. I don't know if that affects the taste at all.
Sometimes meats will have more bloody juices in them than others and those that do can, when mixed with the right (wrong?) combo of ingredients, can leave a metallic taste in your mouth.
Or, if you have any sores in your mouth (gum problem, accidentally have bitten the inside of your cheek) and eat something sweet, that will taste metallic.
I would look at what else has changed and not the crock pot. New brand of spices? Meat from a different source? How about med's you are on? Is anyone noticing it, or just you?
