LOL, I'll agree it's a "Southernism" that folks who live in "The South" like to joke about, but it just doesn't happen in a restaurant (unless maybe you're waaaaay in the "sticks"). No one has EVER asked me "what kind of Coke?" when I have ordered Coke in a restaurant.

Ditto. I often wait until I finish my meal for a drink. But should I take a sip to wash down my food (I sometimes eat like a mad lioness if hungry), then it has to be water.

I never drink soda, if that's all they had it would be iced tea, but I'd rather take it home to eat and have a beer with it.

I'm with you. If I order a coke in a restaurant (not that I drink soda these days) I get a Coca Cola. No one asks for clarification.
