The taste and even the scent of anise/licorice is such a turn off for me that I literally gag if I accidentally bite into something with that flavor. There are even toothpastes that I can't use for this reason. I was curious about cooking with fennel bulbs once until someone described the flavor using the word anise. Nope.
I am just curious, does anyone else have any aversions to a specific ingredient that makes a dish 'no can do'?
The only thing I can think of is anything with brains or intestines. I am not a lover of feta cheese but will eat foods with feta in them, like salads. Spoiled brat can't stand anything with olives except Tamale Pie. That he loves, olives and all.
Cilantro. I hate it, it tastes like soap to me. Wife can eat it, I can't...even it's relative, parsley; has to be subdued for me to be able to eat it. LOL, and I love Mexican food!
Go figure.
I'm also in the anti-cilantro camp.
Parsley's evil twin...that stuff is like a stink bug fell into the dish. Makes it real fun when eating Mexican or Indian food, let me tell you.
