I usually buy boneless skinless chicken breasts, and they don't need to be rinsed. Sometimes I buy the breast tenders instead and those usually smell gross until they're rinsed.
I have a very deep sink and a sprayer hose on my kitchen faucet, so I really don't think much splashes out. I put the chicken tenders in a colander and use the sprayer hose, then I run the colander through the dishwasher.
This link says you shouldn't, but I don't agree. I wash all my meats because I don't trust that a butcher has clean hands and hasn't cross-contaminated between meats/poultry. I'm VERY careful to clean my sinks and countertops after preparing ANY foods.
Thoughts? agree or not?
I do, always have, but recently have read many articles saying not to wash it. Who knows?
I always wash all my meat and also clean down the sink and counters afterwards as well . My mother brought up a good point once , she said "what if the butcher forgot to wash his hands after he took a poop ? " Nope you wash all meats and yes if it is a whole chicken I sure wash that inside too . I don't trust any butchers if I don't see him or her wash their hands .
Wait, I'm confused. Do you people who are washing the chicken because you're concerned about the meat cutter's cleanliness use soap on your chickens or something? because water isn't going to remove ANY of that on its own. And if you ARE washing your chickens with soap, EW.
I wash the chicken to get rid of chemicals that meatpackers use on surfaces where the chicken is being packaged. I worry about eating chicken filled with chemicals.
Unless you're buying local farm-raised chickens you're likely getting a helluva lot more chemicals in the chicken itself than you would ever get from the disinfectants used in the meatpacking plant
