I am attempting to go from a non-cook to a novice. My issue is recipes are usually made for 4 to 6 people. In adjusting a recipe for one person is it a simple matter of dividing the ingredients by the number of servings? Does the cooking time remain the same?
I'm not a leftover eater, so just making the item according to the recipe would have me wasting too much food.

Why don't you look for recipes for singles? It would be easier for you, at least till you get some experiences how to guesstimate.

Thank you elina - I have looked at those recipes, but with the exception of egg dishes or some sandwiches many of them are still for two or more people. I am trying to eat healthier and would really like my dinners to consist of an entrée, a salad and a veggie without being too full.

I like looking through recipes over at AllRecipes. They have a button that will allow you to
adjust the portions. It changes the ingredients list accordingly. Good luck on your new endeavor

Thank you TerrraDown - I didn't know that button existed until I looked for it. Found a great recipe - tonight's dinner, Pineapple Grilled Pork Chop, salad and a couple of aparagras spears.

Yes, I just went and looked. It's the 'Servings' Pie-looking button. Clicking that changes the portions.
Dinner at your house sounds yummy

Why not just cut the recipe for 4-6 people in half and have leftovers? We purposely plan meals that will last two nights during the week simply because it makes things easier. We will even make more than that if it is something that freezes well.

OP said he or she doesn't do leftovers.

Right. Neither do we, that's why I like the Allrecipes website. There's only two of us.

Keeps down the clutter in the 'fridge.
And even using the Ziploc freezer bags, stuff can get buried in there and by the time you dig it out
it may have the awful freezer burn taste.

That's how I have always cooked, leftovers are the norm at my house. OP, looks like that button will be super helpful.....I'm going to check it out myself.
