I see you're in the Deep South. The cassata filling is exactly the same as in a cannoli if that helps.

I have eaten a few cannolis in my life. Most Italian Americans around here have their roots in the Marches, northeast of Rome.

I've never heard of it but it sounds divine. Now that I'm retired I'm always on the lookout for things like this that I have never tried before.

Unfortunately it's hard to pick a recipe or do a taste-testing if you've never had it before and don't know exactly how it's supposed to be.

I have learned that you can't trust every recipe that's online. Martha Stewart wasted me a whole pound of butter one time. Should've known.

I love Cassata cake! ... but haven't had it in years. Thank you very much for making me crave something that I can not find in my part of NC. I'll have to renew my quest.

Arancini! Now that's some savory slice (well, ball) of heaven right there. Surprising at it seems, they actually have fantastic arancini at Carrabba's. Oh god, now I'm drooling.

Don't feel bad. I'm in NJ, which has lots of Italians and Sicilians, and I never even heard of it.

Would like to try it, though.
