Why does all packed bread have so much stuff in it?
You need bread that is baked at a local bakery. In my area I can find such bread at some smaller local groceries and even at one of the largest supermarkets. This type of bread has much fewer ingredients and isn't overly processed.

Recipe for Soft Toast (Just like the 80s used to make!):

1 slice of thick cut sandwich bread

Place slice of thick cut sandwich bread into toaster or suspend over flame or similar heat source until both surfaces are browned and crisped to taste. Flip bread halfway through if necessary.

Seriously, though. If your toast is not soft in the middle it means either your toaster or other heat source is not hot enough or your bread is too thin.
