I really have liked Oikos in the past, especially the fat free. I'm not thrilled by "tart" yogurt though it may be more authentic - I do like Greek though because it is thicker and great for dipping fruit into for my breakfast.

Recently, a good portion of the time the Oikos brand has separated whey on top when I first open it - this is the antithesis of Greek yogurt whose definition is that the whey is drained off! I feel ripped off by this and either try to pour it off myself or stir it in to make "regular" yogurt.

So - is there a better brand out there with more consistent quality?

Not sure if you have this brand in your area, but I love love love the Tillamook greek yogurt. And their Ice Cream is amazing.

I've recently discovered Noosa ... technically not a greek yogurt, but it's as thick as a greek yogurt. I love it, but it's pretty expensive unless there's a pretty good sale.

I like chobani too. It's all natural, and the company believes in sourcing their milk from dairies around their factories. They really support the community around them, and I believe they give 10% of their profits to local charities.

Oikos uses a commercial thickener like pectin, as opposed to having the characteristic Greek yogurt come from a straining process, so that's probably why it's separating.

For a regular sweetened store brand I like Dannon Light Fit Greek.

My regular "go to" though is Trader Joe's non fat greek plain. I generally sweeten a bit with stevia and add my own fresh fruit. I get the large containers and when I first open, there's no separation. After the first day though, there's a bit of liquid at the top and I have to stir it before dishing out my serving.

I've started reading about the Noosa that herfordshire mentioned. I've seen it in the stores but haven't purchased due to the price. I may give it a try since their flavor combos look interesting.

We always get Anderson Erickson, which is an Iowa-based family-owned dairy that supplies a multistate portion of the region. They do I think fifty flavors of Greek and conventional yogurt, but the flavors we get most are plain, vanilla, almond, lemon, clementine, and raspberry.

Plain Fage is my personal favorite. It's thicker than Oikos and many others.

Second would probably be Chobani, but I don't usually buy it if Fage isn't available.

I rarely buy flavored yogurt. I mix in my own fruit.
