I can't remember when we last went to either Applebees or ihop, they used to both more of a desperation place when starving on a road trip. Now, with smartphones it's easy to find a real restaurant with good reviews while traveling.

Denny's restaurants abruptly close, leaving hundreds without jobs; corporate releases statement
$50 for dinner for two? Sounds pretty high-brow to us!

We do lots of local diners and House of Pancakes when we eat out. We're going for food, not atmosphere.

Meh...They can close. Wait staff will find a new place to hold the customer responsible for their wages..

I enjoy both. It's not highbrow food.

We occasionally go to our neighborhood IHOP for lunch (but avoid it on weekends at breakfast). I know this may seem counter to what you'd expect from a chain like that, but they have excellent service. We go to a fair number of trendy and expensive restaurants, but I would rank the service from this IHOP's waitstaff and management as being superior to at least 2/3 of the upscale places we go to. And the eggs are always perfect (which doesn't always happen when you order over medium like I do). I think the waitstaff hustle because their tips can really make them or break them.

I finally went to an Applebee's a couple of years ago. Went twice. Not impressed either time, EXCEPT that they have a good drink made with Maker's Mark and berry juices. I don't care for fancy sweet drinks, so that was a good alternative.

Do you prefer records to CD, Diners to sheeshy restaurants, originals vs remakes of movies or songs?

Then you'd be a cultural conservative!

Prefer manual door locks and roll em up windows over the electric kind in cars? Prefer the NTSC television that served its purpose flawlessly for 60 years over the digital ATSC public money grab?

Then you're a techno-conservative - like me!

Nothing to do with 'politics'. Some of us just like the things we use the way they were.

Again, totally unrelated to this thread or food.
