How to Store Spinach So It Doesn't Get Slimy

After reading this article, I got to thinking: Would these methods work for all salad greens? I regularly have problems with bagged/boxed salad greens getting slimy, then pitched into the garbage.

(Yeah, I know what you're saying. " Just don't buy the bagged stuff anymore." But I really like the spring greens mixes, and I can't regularly find all that stuff any other way. And I love arugula and have NEVER seen it sold any other way except occasionally at farmer's markets.)

Then I realized that MY salad spinner never gets the greens really dry. Is that the fault of the operator or the cheapy salad spinner I purchased?

When I use my salad spinner, I take the greens out & place them on a cookie sheet that is lined with a cloth kitchen towel. I then hand dry each leaf before putting it into a ziplock, which will also have a paper towel in it, to absorb any dampness. This helps keep them longer, in the fridge.

Well we all do what we have to or want to do. I do it, because i love fresh greens & I also hate waste. But I also only do it a few times a year.

Hey, I'm a guy. You wouldn't expect me to dry lettuce by hand.

I'm confused. You love fresh greens, but you only do it a few times a year? Surely, the greens aren't lasting THAT long!
