There's a little politics in here, but mostly about the ubiquitous pumpkin spice.
It didn't seem to me that most thing I tried - like pumpkin ice cream - were anything more than maybe some cinnamon and cloves. And it turns out that I was right.
Will Pumpkin Spice Destroy Us All?

It’s invention run amok, marketing gone mad, the odoriferous emblem of commercialism without compunction or bounds. It’s the transformation of an illusion – there isn’t any spice called pumpkin, nor any pumpkin this spicy – into a reality.
I like pumpkin-pie flavoring in pumpkin pies and the occasional pumpkin cheesecake. I look forward to having pumpkin pie or pumpkin-pie-flavored cheesecake a few times during the fall and winter. I don't care for the other pumpkin-pie flavored foods, so I don't buy them. I have two friends who live for pumpkin-pie-spice-flavored-everything season, and they do their part to support the pumpkin-pie-spice-flavored-everything economy buy buying everything pumpkin-pie-spice flavored that they can get their hands on. I feel that I am fulfilling my role as a friend by buying very little of those products, thereby leaving more for them.
Some people really like it and look forward to the fall and all the pumpkin-spice-flavored foods that appear at that time of year. They buy them and are, presumably, happy to have them.
Others don't care for the flavor of the spices used in pumpkin pie. They don't have to buy anything flavored with pumpkin-pie spices if they don't want to do so. The fact that others do like and want those products is no threat to those who don't.

I'm also guilty of pumpkin spice...I have a giant box of pumpkin spice flavored Cheerios that I am snacking on.

I've never expected pumpkin to appear in pumpkin spice coffee, creamer, or whatever. Pumpkin is a gourd, and it's bland. What they're selling is pumkpin spice flavored products--the spices that are generally used to flavor otherwise flavorless pumpkin dishes. Sometimes I like it, and sometimes I don't. One thing I don't like, is pumpkin cheesecake. Now, pumpkin spice cheesecake? I'm all in. See the difference?

Its pumpkin pie spice. So yes, while those spices are used to flavor other dishes, its also used for making pumpkin pie. There is no pumpkin in these products, because it's not supposed to be pumpkin flavored (which yes, pumpkin does have a flavor), its the spices used when baking pumpkin pie.
