The chipmunks, however, do not eat that much.

But then we also have buzzards...or vultures, if you will. See them circling just like the hawks come twilight.
Or very early morning...last nights kill or some young'un that did not get back to the den on time...see it outside my door. Fur. Nothing else.

I recall, my two cats running in like the devil was upon them. Busted through the door. I knew the hawk was in the tree just yards from the deck.

I know a concerned animal. I also know a terrified animal. They were terrified. Hawks the only ones I see comin around in the middle of the day. Hide in that pine I have.

But I digress.

I am so glad that anything is at less than a pound, that being said, I have not been to the slaughter house for a while now. Not a good time to go since best time is Jan and February. Old rancher told me....spring happens much earlier on the farm.

It is time to go back to this place. I even might get a whole oxtail, and if I am very very lucky, next year a couple of dear hearts. Just like the Native American Indians who ate the offal and gave the muscle to the horses.

Remember...I am still learning.

Well, never say never because I walked into my favorite grocery store and there it was!

A whole flat of Turkeys for 59 cents a pound.

Mr. Broker did you call them up and give them your piece of mind?!

Too bad I do not have a large family or we would be having Turkey this weekend!

Karma is a very strange thing. I said it could not would not happen here and Viola!
I would have bought it, anyway! I would eat what I want, then have leftovers, then make turkey soup or whatever. A good buy is a good buy. It keeps well, can make several dishes with it, and is delicious & healthy.

love turkey, but we always have a problem with left overs. When freezing a cooked turkey the consistency changes and it just isn't all the great. It seems to become mealy or something: maybe stringy is a better word. It is still great for soup though.

Meat that has been cooked then refrozen, including turkey, always tastes less then topnotch to me.

You are right, the texture changes for the worse, dang!
