One thing I love about the holidays is they roll out some seasonal items, specifically, ice cream! Ice cream is one of my four major food groups (the others are cheese, bacon, and sushi). So today I picked up a seasonal four-pack of Talenti gelato that includes pumpkin pie, caramel apple pie, eggnog, and peppermint bark. Just tried the pumpkin pie and it is delicious - smooth, perfect balance of pie spices, and little bits of crust.

Has anyone else found something new in the ice cream aisle?

Not quite in the ice cream aisle, but last year I made cranberry sorbet for Thanksgiving and it was excellent.

Talenti makes an excellent gelato and sorbet. I am glad they do seasonal products and I bet, they are delicious! Going to get me some too

Peppermint at Lidl. It has peppermint bark in it, is only $1.99 for the standard size large container, and is really creamy and delicious.

Graeter's features different seasonal flavors all year long. The current three are Pumpkin, Cinnamon, and Apple Cider sorbet, but I can only find Pumpkin at any of my regular supermarkets. If I lived near a Graeter's store (OH, KY, PA, IL, IN), I'd want to try the sorbet. In December, there'll be Peppermint Stick and Eggnog ice creams. You can order online, but I don't want 6 pints of ice cream.

I like Bluebell's pumpkin praline but Apple Cider sorbet sounds like something I'd love to try too.

It's probably not much closer for you than the Cranberry store, but Graeter's is opening a new location in Castle Shannon.

My favorite seasonal ice cream is peppermint with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Pumpkin and cinnamon seem like they should be warm, not icy.

I don't have Lidl - I was going to say my fav. around Christmas is the peppermint - I can't always find it though (it has bits of candy cane in it) - if anyone remember Howard Johnson's restaurants? they used to see it - for a brief time Baskin Robbins did (not sure if they still do, I have been in one in many yrs.) - hoping the store that used to have it under their own label will this year too.

I spoke with someone at Graeter's early this year, and he mentioned they were thinking about Castle Shannon. And now it's going to happen. Thanks for letting me know.

Graeter

BTW, it actually is closer than the one in Wexford. 9 miles instead of 16.
