Hi. I'm new to the food forum. Hope that's ok.
This was my 3rd year alone for Thanksgiving. Had a tv dinner and a lady brought me a homemade sweet potato pie. Enjoyed the day.

We were on our own, too, this year. I bought a ham online and when it came I was amazed at how tiny it was! You can't tell, really, looking at them online. It was 2 1/2 pounds - but actually just a good size for the two of us. I'm having the remains today with a potato salad, having dished out ham sandwiches once since Thursday (and probably will have enough left over for another ham sandwich meal before it's done)

How can "we" be "on our own"? If you were with another person, you weren't alone.

As for the poster to whom you were replying who WAS alone, let me invite you to the "Alone for the Holidays" thread, where we also hear from a fair number of posters saying "WE were alone." SMH...

Well, I didn't actually say we were alone. I said we were on our own, which is a bit different and usually is taken to mean we weren't with family.

My cousin, however, across the country, was alone this year, and ended up going to Golden Corral for her Thanksgiving. I'm sure it is not the best way to get through the day but one does what they have to.

The poster before you said "I was alone," and you responded, "We were on our own, TOO..."

That's making being solitary equivalent with being with another. But we're used to that now!

Otter - you were apparently alone and probably by your own choosing. Will you please not point out posters failures to comply with your interpretation of alone all over CD? Thank you. I offered you a place at the table, room/board/cats/truck for a couple of days.

I got side tracked chatting with a friend and a sheet of cookies turned out unacceptable. Well, we had a great time catching up.

Dinner was perfect according to SO and we had enough for lunch Friday. Scalloped potatoes with ham?

Finished off most of the dishes from BIG turkey dinner from Bob Evan’s. So good!!!
I think there still might be some turkey leftover though. Perhaps tomorrow night I can mix it in something?

Hope to have something light for breakfast this morning.

The Golden Corral… (mentioned previously), I liked that place even though we didn’t go that often. Now they’re gone in our immediate area. The Epic Buffet attached to the Casino has also “permanently closed”. I used to enjoy the AYCE crab but I read in one of our local papers that they quit serving them but no reasons given. I couldn’t put as many on my plate as I’d seen others do. So I think there’s still one GC about 30mins or so in one of the compass points that we don’t normally travel to. GT used to do something like that with their seafood - shrimp and/or Mahi-mahi tacos but they quit doing that special too. The most I’ve ever done was maybe 2 plates but I can easily see others chowing down maybe 5 or more platefuls.

My "tiny" 2.5 lb. ham is still going. I try not to serve it every day, haha! Who knew you could get that much off a spiral cut ham. Scalloped potatoes Thanksgiving day, potato salad the next time, I think I'll do a pork and bean casserole with special additives for tomorrow's.

I know I indulged more than I should have this past holiday but there was just so many things with the company that came to our place I had to sample it all. That's my reasoning and I'm sticking to it.
