Isn't that the same thing???

Generic is a store brand.

Anyone else notice the same name brand product tastes different when bought at different retailers?

Walmart vs dollar stores vs grocery chains?

Do realize that MANY of the food products - name brand as well as private label - are made at the same facilities. Compare and save.

Exactly IE:

Vlassic pickles are good. But I've had good results buying generics & other "name" brands. I have no issue with purchasing any of these brands:

Vlassic
Mt. Olive (other "name" brand)
PiCs (Price Chopper / Market 32)
Great Value (Walmart)

So whatever is on sale gets purchased.

Should've reused the name brand boxes. Years ago the generic Cheerios were noticeably different in looks and taste. Not so much lately.

That is true, but the recipes tend to vary slightly for each product. IE: Heinz Ketchup vs Generic

The factory may run the Generic first, then tweak the recipe for Heinz run. Like add extra sugar, or
for vinegar, etc. Just enough to legally to be allowed to label it different.

Default Mmm my childhood

We always had knock off versions growing up, but the one that made me cringe was Dr. Thunder, a supposed substitute for Dr. Pepper. Never again

Store brands or generic brands are usually just as good as named brands. The difference for me often shows up in the packaging. Maybe the box is hard to open or close, or the can opener skips on a can.

But not always with the same ingredients, or the same ratio of ingredients.

As Walmart is the closest store to us, we have tried some of their store brands, and they can be pretty bad. DH would not even eat their graham crackers, and he is not picky.

I bought their salt, I figured salt is salt, can't mess it up. But you can apparently. Their salt had tons of salt "dust", I poured it in the the salt box.... and "poof", cloud of salt.

I stopped by their brand.
