It's believable, based on what I see in other people. I can count on one hand the number of times I eat chips in a year (I'm not a salty snack person), and even though I have a sweet tooth, I think I do well at resisting. A container of ice cream might last 3-4 months in my freezer.

Now, chocolate toffee.....that would be my downfall if I allowed it in the house!

Personally I never found cocaine to be addictive.

Here’s Why You Can’t Quit Ice Cream and Chips:

https://www.river1467.com.au/trendin...eam-and-chips/

But in short - it's sugar, salt and fat. That's why so many people are addicted to processed food, and gaining weight. And all three are excessively used in production of our food, because they cause uncontrollable cravings, excessive consumption, and continued intake despite knowing the potential health risks.
Marketing loves it! Healthcare loves it!
It feeds the culture, where instant gratification and compulsive behaviors to cope with negative feelings are becoming more prevalent. The "I deserve it" mentality.

Junk food gives you a nice shot of dopamine, the “feel-good hormone", and is a lot easier to get than illegal drugs are.

The quick dopamine rush followed by a sudden crash is trapping you in a cycle of craving, consumption, and regret - similar to drug use.

Comes across as paving the road to declare obesity as an addiction.
We have these new obesity drugs that aren't covered by insurance.

The contrarian in me thinks this is a push to have those drugs covered because....$1000/month isn't affordable.

Once in a while, I get a craving for chips, but I can let it pass. Ice-cream, on the other hand is my crack. I am a fully acknowledged ice-cream addict, plus it's one of the few foods that actually helps with a particular digestive condition without side effects.

Both are always available but do get old from time to time.

I remember once seeing a stat saying that something like 25% of people who try heroin get addicted. May have been online, may just have been on an episode of Drugs Inc (a show which I found to be quite addicting itself). Cocaine's percentage was lower than heroin's. Not feeling particularly motivated to Google, unfortunately

The article doesn't address dependence, meaning what happens when you don't get your "fix?"

It's one thing to have a craving you struggle to control because access to the substance is constant (like sugar)

It's something differently entirely to have your body go into withdrawal because a substance it is dependent on is taken away.

I see no evidence sugar or potato starch has any of the withdrawal symptoms associated with coke or opiates.

Well, they are cheaper than cocaine.

Spouse loves both. He has to just say no.
