Overheard a kid ask this question in regards to chicken salad sandwich. Got me wondering about other “salads” like ham, tuna, egg, and potato salads. Why were they called a salad?
There are different kinds of salads. They aren't all mixed vegetables.

In Swedish, for example, the word "salad" means lettuce. A tuna salad or chicken salad is served with lettuce. If you put it on bread it may or may not include the lettuce. Perhaps these other "salads" were served with lettuce in the past. Of course, "salad" comes from the Latin word for "health". I'm not sure what a ham salad is, but if it's "deviled ham", I love it. And the other "salads" you mention are things I love.
