With Sarah Palin being chosen as VP by McCain, I got to wondering just what a moose burger tastes like. Anybody try it? I wonder if I could talk any of the grocery stores here in north Texas to buy some...
Moose isn't raised commercially so you probably won't find it in a grocery. A burger is a little drier than a beef burger because moose aren't artificially fed or as fatty as a cow. It has good flavor if you don't shoot an older bull in rut. I'd rather have a younger animal taken early in the season.
I have had Moose Burgers and it is delicious. A bit gamey and full of flavour though slightly drier as the meat is leaner than beef.
Buffalo burgers are the best though. I would have them over beef most of the time but it is hard to come by them , especially in the UK. It has such a lovely deep flavour and very juicy.
I have them every time I see it on a menu.
I haven't seen much in the way of buffalo meat, and zero elk meat. But I would like to. I suspect buffalo meat is probably limited.
Bison/Buffalo is raised on farms now and they are plentiful in the wild also. It seems to be widely available here and in other parts of the country I've lived/travelled. I'm sure you can find it in TX, but it is more expensive than beef, but leaner and I like the way it tastes.
Elk is a Rocky Mountain thing for the most part. They're all over the place here in CO.
